1. Dual Licensing Structure

GlitchRealm's codebase is subject to a dual license structure, which means different parts of the platform are licensed under different terms:

Code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Firestore Rules):

Licensed under the MIT License

Non-Code Assets (Images, Icons, Logos, Branding):

All Rights Reserved

This distinction is critical: You may use the code freely under MIT terms, but you may NOT use GlitchRealm's visual assets, branding, or trademarks without permission.

2. MIT License Summary (Code)

The MIT License grants you the following rights for GlitchRealm's source code:

  • Commercial Use: Use the code in commercial projects
  • Modification: Modify, adapt, or create derivative works
  • Distribution: Distribute copies of the original or modified code
  • Private Use: Use the code for personal or internal projects

You MUST include the MIT License text and copyright notice in all copies or substantial portions of the code. See the LICENSE file for full terms.

3. Non-Code Assets (All Rights Reserved)

The following assets are NOT licensed under the MIT License and may not be used without written permission:

  • Logos & Branding: GlitchRealm logo, favicon, app icons, banners
  • Visual Assets: Illustrations, graphics, background animations, UI elements
  • Fonts (if custom): Custom font files or typography (Google Fonts are separately licensed by Google)
  • Game Assets: Cover images, screenshots, game-specific artwork
  • Documentation: Guides, tutorials, marketing materials (unless explicitly licensed)

To request permission to use non-code assets, contact legal@glitchrealm.ca.

4. Trademark Policy

The following are trademarks of GlitchRealm and may not be used without authorization:

  • "GlitchRealm" (name, wordmark)
  • GlitchRealm Logo (all variations and color schemes)
  • Taglines and Slogans (e.g., "Cyberpunk Gaming Platform")
  • Domain Name: glitchrealm.ca and all variations

Permitted Trademark Uses

You may use the "GlitchRealm" name in the following contexts:

  • Factual references to the platform (e.g., "Built using GlitchRealm's open-source code")
  • News articles, reviews, or educational content about GlitchRealm
  • Link attribution (e.g., "Hosted on GlitchRealm.ca")

Prohibited Trademark Uses

  • Creating derivative products or services named "GlitchRealm" or similar variations
  • Implying endorsement, affiliation, or sponsorship by GlitchRealm without permission
  • Using the GlitchRealm logo on third-party websites, apps, or merchandise
  • Registering domain names containing "glitchrealm" or confusingly similar terms

5. Third-Party Intellectual Property

GlitchRealm uses third-party services and libraries with their own licenses:

Open-Source Libraries

  • Firebase SDK: Apache License 2.0 (License)
  • Supabase SDK: MIT License (License)

Fonts

All third-party components retain their original licenses. See the NOTICE file for attribution details.

6. User-Generated Content

When you submit a game or content to GlitchRealm:

  • You retain ownership of your intellectual property
  • You grant GlitchRealm a license to host, display, and promote your content (see Developer Agreement)
  • You are responsible for ensuring you have rights to all assets in your submission
  • GlitchRealm does not claim ownership of user-generated content

7. Proper Attribution

When using GlitchRealm's code (MIT-licensed), you MUST include:

  • The original MIT License text (from the LICENSE file)
  • Copyright notice: "Copyright (c) 2024-2026 GlitchRealm"
  • A link to the original repository (if applicable)

8. Enforcement and Violations

Unauthorized use of GlitchRealm's trademarks, non-code assets, or copyrighted material may result in:

  • Cease and desist notices
  • DMCA takedown requests (see DMCA Policy)
  • Legal action for trademark infringement or copyright violations
  • Account termination (if the infringer is a GlitchRealm user)

We prefer to resolve disputes amicably. If you believe you are using GlitchRealm's IP appropriately, contact legal@glitchrealm.ca for clarification.

9. Reporting IP Violations

If you believe someone is infringing GlitchRealm's intellectual property, or if you believe GlitchRealm is infringing your IP, please report it:

GlitchRealm may update this IP & Trademark Notice at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
